Team Liquid, a North American esports organization, has announced a four-year agreement with Coinbase, a cryptocurrency exchange.
The two organizations will collaborate on several initiatives and integrations over the next four years, as well as developing technology that improves the overall fan experience, according to the announcement. A crypto-based payment option will also be available on Team Liquid’s official store.
Coinbase and Team Liquid will collaborate in a variety of ways as part of their multifaceted agreement, which is based on ‘creating and delivering content that resonates with fans.’
Team Liquid’s esports shirts will include the Coinbase logo. In addition, Coinbase will include a number of themed experiences and activities in its future Liquid + mobile app, as well as its first Team Liquid Scouting Combine in Q1 2022.
Team Liquid’s Co-CEO and Owner, Steve Arhancet, said “when we were looking for a potential partner in the crypto space, it was really important that we found someone that was doing it the right way, the Team Liquid way.”
He further said, “A partner who had real infrastructure in place that’s built to last, who possessed trusted expertise and nuance in this new, complex world of decentralized banking and finance.”
He continued by saying, “for us, those qualities were absolute requirements. And the more we learned about Coinbase, the more certain we became that this was the partner we were looking for. Like a lot of our fans, crypto was new to me once, but once I started reading and watching, I realized that it wasn’t some passing fad — it’s here now, and will be in the future.”
He thinks that with the support of Coinbase, the team could de-mystify cryptocurrencies for Team Liquid fans.
This is one of the best examples of how the sports industry is entering into a new age by creating such collaborations.
