Coinbase Wallet Releases Its Standalone Browser Extension

In Brief:

  • Coinbase has rolled out a new standalone browser extension for its Coinbase Wallet.
  • Coinbase’s standalone browser extension enables its users to browse apps, and access cryptocurrencies, collect NFTs, earn interest, etc.
  • These services are now available without the requirement to confirm transactions on smartphones in the current version.

Coinbase released its Coinbase wallet browser extension incorporating full standalone functionality. Now, its users can browse apps, access thousands of cryptocurrencies, trade on several decentralized exchanges, earn interest and collect NFTs. Users can avail of these offerings from the browser eliminating the need to confirm transactions on their smartphones.

In May, Coinbase launched its Coinbase wallet extension. The objective was to empower millions of customers to benefit from the exciting world of Dapps. Also, this extension introduced Coinbase wallet to desktops, allowing users to get access to the broader cryptosystem.

The previous release was a downloadable browser extension that allowed users to only link their wallet account to the extension. Through this, users can directly initiate transactions via desktop but require user confirmation via their wallet mobile apps. With the new standalone browser extension, users can directly access services without the need to confirm transactions.

According to Coinbase spokesperson, the previous downloadable Coinbase Wallet browser extension required users to have the wallet mobile app installed, whereas the latest version does not.

This version is assumed to now directly compete with well-known wallets like MetaMask quite efficiently with these add-ons.

Coinbase’s group product manager Sid Coelho-Prabhu stated that the company aims to empower everyone to use Dapps and web3 by building the easy-to-use and most accessible self-custody wallet in the crypto world.

Now users can link their self-custody Coinbase Wallet to a Coinbase account and take advantage of everything Coinbase has to offer such as buying crypto with cash. Coinbase has been evolving its offerings. This year, Coinbase has also supported polygon networks on Coinbase Wallet for its customers to utilize DeFi protocols such as Uniswap, Aave, Compound, and NFT platforms like Opensea and Zora.
