Key Highlights
- Sui recorded 40,614,180 transactions per second during a live Basecamp demonstration in Singapore.
- The result exceeded Sui’s 20 million TPS target and was more than six times its previous 6,086,766 TPS record from July 4.
- More than 10,000 Sui tunnels opened on the mainnet within seconds during the demonstration.
Sui Network recorded 40,614,180 transactions per second during a live test conducted on the Summit Stage at Sui Basecamp in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. The test, held alongside Token2049, used Sui tunnels and settled results on the Sui mainnet.
According to the official announcement shared on October 7, CertiK is independently analyzing the associated data, including proofs, execution logs, journals, and supporting evidence, and will publish a report in the coming days.
The figure exceeded the network’s stated 20 million TPS target for the demonstration and surpassed the previous mark of 6,086,766 TPS set on July 4, 2026. Both results were measured inside Sui tunnels. More than 10,000 tunnels opened on the mainnet within seconds of each other during the Basecamp event.
Execution of the test
Adeniyi Abiodun, Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder at Mysten Labs, the original contributor to Sui, ran the test. Participants and spectators accessed an explorer built for the event. Users and AI agents opened tunnels across application categories that included chat, games, and payments. Activity inside the tunnels occurred gaslessly and off-chain. When closed, each tunnel settled to the Sui mainnet.
Sui tunnels function similarly to Lightning Network payment channels in that they settle to the mainnet upon closure. Every closed tunnel is mutually cosigned and independently verifiable on-chain. Unlike Lightning channels, Sui tunnels are programmable and support a range of activities beyond payments. Builders can design tunnels using the network’s primitives.
At the recorded throughput, intermediate costs inside the tunnels approached zero because each tunnel required only two onchain transactions, one to open and one to close. The demonstration focused on chat, games, and payments, though the underlying design allows other uses.
Independent review by CertiK
Yuannan Yang, Director of Security Engineering at CertiK, stated, “As blockchain infrastructure continues to scale, transparent and independently verifiable performance measurements will become increasingly important. Providing an objective basis for these results helps build trust in the infrastructure supporting next-generation applications, both within the Sui ecosystem and beyond.”
Abiodun described the role of the network in the following terms: “In an agentic economy, Sui doesn’t need to process every interaction. It needs to be the trust layer for all of them. Think of Sui as a court. Agents agree on the rules when they open a tunnel and reach a conclusion when they settle. In between, the court stays out of their business. When there’s a dispute, Sui resolves it automatically and transparently. Agents get privacy and speed without giving up verifiability.”
July 4 live test
On July 4, 2026, Sui conducted a public experiment centered on Sui tunnels. Autonomous AI agents operated across decentralized applications, games, payments, and chat interfaces. Real-time dashboards at that time showed throughput exceeding peaks above 6 million.
The Basecamp result measured more than six times the July 4 peak of 6,086,766 TPS. A contest ran concurrently with the Basecamp demonstration. Live and digital attendees submitted guesses for the final TPS figure.
