Crypto exchange Bybit is preparing to launch a new options product linked to stock perpetual contracts, starting with SpaceX and Nvidia on September 17 at 8 p.m. UTC.
The firm in a Friday announcement on X, said users will be able to trade the contracts 24/7 on Bybit, with fractional lots, USDT settlement and several options strategies.
This new product is called “Perp Options,” as described by Bybit as the first options contracts tied to stock perpetuals. The first markets will be SpaceX (SPCX) and Nvidia (NVDA), with trading available through Bybit’s Unified Trading Account. The contracts will also support portfolio margin, giving eligible traders another way to manage their positions.
Smaller contracts for traders
One of the main changes is the smaller entry size. Bybit said that Traditional stock options usually represent 100 shares, which can make them costly when the underlying stock has a high price. Bybit said its new contracts will support fractional lots, which means that traders will not need to take exposure to a full 100-share contract.
The contracts will also trade around the clock. Instead of stopping when the normal stock market closes, Bybit users will be able to trade them throughout the week, including outside regular market hours.
The contracts will be settled in USDT, keeping the settlement process within the crypto exchange’s existing trading system.
The firm said users will not only be able to buy and sell, they will also be able to use strategies such as spreads, straddles and covered calls. The exchange also said it plans to add new expiration dates regularly and expand the product to more assets.
The exchange also listed Tesla (TSLA), QQQ, SOXL and Micron (MU) among the additional assets planned for the offering.
More crypto platforms are moving into stocks
With this new product, Bybit will be joining other crypto platforms that are already bringing traditional stocks and other financial assets into markets that operate around the clock.
For instance, earlier this year, Coinbase also launched stock perpetual futures for eligible traders outside the United States, allowing them to take synthetic leveraged positions tied to selected stocks and exchange-traded funds.
Kraken and Robinhood have also been moving toward 24/7 equity trading, showing how the line between traditional markets and crypto trading platforms is becoming less clear.
In fact, tokenized stocks are also becoming part of this wider change. In July, Ondo said users of its Perps platform could use tokenized stocks as collateral when trading perpetuals linked to stocks, commodities and other assets. The move gives tokenized stocks another use beyond simply holding an onchain version of an asset.
“RWA perps can now trade on a platform built to deliver liquidity and capital efficiency on par with traditional derivatives exchanges,” Ondo said.
Against this backdrop, Bybit is adding another layer to the growing equity derivatives market. Its new Perp Options will bring options trading together with stock perpetual exposure, starting with two major names and potentially expanding to more assets.
