Cyberleek Token Surges 819% Amid Take-Two’s GTA 6 Probe

Key Highlights

  • Cyberleek-linked token rose 819% in seven days to $0.0133, with an $11.9 million market cap.
  • Take-Two is seeking information from Google and X to help identify the person or group behind the GTA 6 leaks.
  • Rockstar said it will provide an extended official look at GTA 6 on August 27, while the game remains scheduled for release on November 19.

A newly created token, CyberLeek (CYBERLEEK), associated with the Cyberleek GTA 6 leak saga, rose more than 800% in seven days as attention around the leaks continued to grow.

According to data from Coingecko (on August 26 at 20:21 IST), the token was trading for $0.0133, representing an 819% increase in value over the past seven days. This has pushed the newly created token to around $11.9 million in market capitalization, with a 24-hour trading volume of about $13.79 million.

Cyberleek token catches fire

The token’s rise comes as Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, is trying to find the person or group using the Cyberleek name. According to an official court filing dated August 21, the company is seeking information from Google and X that could help reveal who is behind the leaks. It is also asking platforms to take down leaked GTA 6 videos and images.

The Cyberleek saga began gaining attention on August 18, when gameplay clips from the unreleased Grand Theft Auto 6 started appearing online. Additional footage subsequently spread across different websites.

Discord account draws attention

An online investigation has added another twist. GTA Forums user Vice Cit has been looking into Cyberleek’s activity and has pointed to a Discord user called “stayonthegrindd” as a possible link to the leaker.

According to the investigation, Cyberleek shared what was described as a preview of the GTA 6 map on August 16. Basketball gameplay then appeared on the dark web the following day. On August 18, a user called “Cyberleeker” shared the same basketball footage on Dread, a dark-web forum.

About eight hours later, “stayonthegrindd” joined a GTA 6 Discord server and posted the same basketball footage before deleting it. The user then asked members what leaked gameplay they wanted to see next. When someone asked for driving footage, the account replied, “I will be back with driving gameplay.”

The events that followed made the connection more interesting. About 90 minutes later, the full GTA 6 map was uploaded to the blockchain. Around two hours after that, Cyberleek uploaded a leaked video showing Jason driving.

There was another possible link. A Discord user claimed that “stayonthegrindd” had sent them a video showing a black car. That video later became known as the “Gas” clip and spread online on August 23.

The investigation has not established that “stayonthegrindd” is Cyberleek or is directly connected to the leaks. The account could belong to the leaker, someone working with the group, or an individual who had access to the leaked material.

Take-Two seeks leaker’s identity

Take-Two is also pursuing the source of the leaked material through the courts. On August 21, it asked the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York to subpoena Google and X Corp for information that could help identify people linked to the leaks.

The company has also sought the removal of leaked GTA 6 content. In a DMCA request, Take-Two described the footage as unauthorized and confirmed that it was genuine gameplay from the unreleased game.

Rockstar responds to GTA 6 leaks

Rockstar itself has now spoken publicly about the leaks. In a Wednesday post on X, the studio said having GTA 6 gameplay videos appear online this way had been “heartbreaking” for its team. Rockstar also apologized to fans and said the game is nearly finished.

“We are very sorry that everything has taken as long as it has – from getting the game finished (nearly there!) to sharing more details and official gameplay, and providing the community with everything you want to know,” the company said.

The studio said fans will get an extended official look at GTA 6 tomorrow. It also asked players to wait until the game’s planned November 19 release to experience it themselves.

GTA 6 activity extends into crypto

The Cyberleek token is not the first crypto-related activity to emerge around GTA 6.

In June, cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes warned about fake websites promising fans early access to GTA 6 in exchange for cryptocurrency payments. The sites reportedly asked for hundreds of dollars in Bitcoin, USDT, or Ethereum while offering no actual game.

Malwarebytes said the fake stores used GTA 6 logos, Vice City artwork, luxury car images, and fake “VIP Digital Access” offers to appear real. After victims paid, they were asked to provide a transaction ID before supposedly receiving the game. There was no game at the end of the process.

The earlier scams and the Cyberleek-linked token are separate developments. The token’s price movement reflects market activity around an asset associated with the leak saga and does not establish any connection between the token’s creators and the individuals responsible for the GTA 6 leaks.

With Take-Two seeking information about the source of the leaks and Rockstar preparing its next official presentation, the identity of the person or group behind the Cyberleek activity remains unresolved.
