Key Highlights

  • President Donald Trump is expected to participate in an August 19 White House meeting with executives from crypto and prediction-market companies.
  • Coinbase, a16z, Ripple, Chainlink, Kalshi, Paradigm and Digital Chamber are among those expected to attend, while Kraken, Gemini, NYSE and Nasdaq executives have also been invited.
  • SEC Chairman Paul Atkins is confirmed to attend, while CFTC Chairman Michael Selig is expected to participate ahead of the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee’s inaugural August 20 meeting.

President Donald Trump is expected to participate in a White House meeting on Wednesday, August 19, bringing together senior officials and executives from the cryptocurrency and prediction-market industries, according to multiple reports.

Executives from Coinbase, a16z, Ripple, Chainlink, prediction-market platform Kalshi, venture firm Paradigm and trade association Digital Chamber are among those expected at the gathering. Patrick Witt, executive director of the President’s Council of Advisers for Digital Assets, is also expected to attend.

SEC Chairman Paul Atkins will attend the White House event, an SEC spokesperson confirmed to Bloomberg. CFTC Chairman Michael Selig is also planning to participate, while Trump’s attendance is currently described as expected rather than formally confirmed by the White House.

The attendee list could extend further. Journalist Eleanor Terrett reported that executives from Kraken, Gemini, the New York Stock Exchange, and Nasdaq have also been invited, although invitations do not necessarily mean all four will attend.

White House meeting comes before CFTC innovation panel

The Wednesday gathering is being viewed as a smaller kick-off event ahead of the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee’s inaugural meeting in Washington on Thursday, August 20. The committee consists of 35 members drawn from crypto, derivatives, prediction markets, traditional exchanges and financial infrastructure companies.

Its membership includes Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, a16z crypto Managing Partner Chris Dixon, Chainlink Labs CEO Sergey Nazarov, Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour and Paradigm Managing Partner Alana Palmedo. Kraken, Gemini, Nasdaq, CME Group, Intercontinental Exchange, Robinhood, Polymarket and Crypto.com are also represented.

The committee was established to advise the CFTC on the intersection of technology, financial markets, law and regulation as the agency expands its work around digital assets and newer market structures, along with growing coordination between the SEC and CFTC over crypto and derivatives regulation.

Crypto regulation and prediction markets lead CFTC agenda

The CFTC has scheduled the August 20 IAC meeting from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET in Washington, with three sessions covering crypto regulation, artificial intelligence and prediction markets.

The first session, titled “Crypto’s Regulatory Evolution: From Uncertainty to Clarity,” will examine fragmented state licensing requirements, overlapping regulatory jurisdictions, the absence of a comprehensive federal market-structure framework and areas where regulators can act under existing authority while Congress considers broader legislation.

The agenda comes as Selig has repeatedly called for clearer federal digital-asset rules and urging Congress to advance the CLARITY Act to better define the regulatory responsibilities of the CFTC and SEC.

Prediction markets will receive a separate 50-minute session focused on the respective roles of federal and state regulators, recent state litigation and enforcement actions, event-contract product design, market surveillance, manipulation risks and customer protections.

Those issues have become increasingly important as platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket expand while federal and state authorities dispute how event contracts should be regulated. The Crypto Times previously covered the White House review of CFTC prediction-market rules and the agency’s more recent guidance on event-contract self-certification.

The White House and CFTC had not publicly released a formal agenda or attendee list for Wednesday’s gathering as of the latest reports. The CFTC has, however, formally confirmed its August 20 committee meeting and published the full agenda, making the White House event a precursor to a broader regulatory discussion involving many of the same companies.
