Hut 8 Corp. (NASDAQ: HUT) stock on Monday saw intraday gains exceeding 12.69% at one point before settling around $103. The sharp movement followed the company’s announcement related to its AI data center expansion plans.
According to Google Finance data, the stock opened at approximately $101.51 and reached a high of $107.00. Trading volume reached 2.67 million shares, above the average volume of 4.18 million over recent periods. The market capitalization stood at roughly $12.89 billion, with 112.59 million shares outstanding.

Analysts remain on positive side
The five-day chart showed the stock trading in the $90–$100 range for most of the period before a sharp spike on July 20, closing the recent session near $103.04, up 3.56% for that timeframe. A one-month view showed a broader downtrend, with the stock declining approximately 14.90% over that period and trading as low as the low $90s in recent weeks.

Analyst sentiment remains divided but leans positive in aggregate. Out of 15 analysts providing ratings in the past three months, all 15 issued “Buy” recommendations, with no “Hold” or “Sell” ratings. The average 12-month price target stands at $144.25, with targets ranging from $120.15 to $226.28. The company reported earnings per share of negative $2.99.
Surge follows AI data center announcement
The rally followed Hut 8’s announcement that it had secured a $9.8 billion, 15-year lease to fully commercialize its 1-gigawatt Beacon Point AI data center campus in Texas, increasing its contracted IT capacity to 949 MW.
Traditionally focused on Bitcoin mining, Hut 8 has been expanding into high-performance computing and AI infrastructure to diversify its revenue streams amid fluctuating cryptocurrency prices and energy costs.
Despite the one-day move, the stock has shown high volatility. The 52-week range spans from a low of $18.68 to a high of $140.80, highlighting significant risk for investors. The company continues to navigate challenges common to the sector, including regulatory scrutiny, energy market fluctuations, and competition from larger technology and data center firms.
Risks remain despite the surge
While the AI pivot has generated short-term excitement, several concerns persist. Hut 8’s core Bitcoin mining operations remain exposed to crypto price cycles, and expansion into AI data centers requires substantial capital expenditures at a time when the company has reported negative earnings.
Integration risks, execution delays, and competition from established players like hyperscale providers could pressure margins. Many similar crypto-to-AI transitions have faced skepticism regarding actual revenue delivery versus promotional timelines.
Investors will likely monitor whether the company’s AI infrastructure strategy translates into sustained revenue growth alongside its traditional mining business.
