Key Highlights
- Cardano Founder Charles Hoskinson shared that the mainnet launch of Midnight Network will be rolled out in the final week of March.
- Developed by Input Output Global (IOG), Midnight operates as a partner chain to Cardano, with implementing ZK-proofs for confidential smart contracts and selective data disclosure.
- Hoskinson also revealed a new deal that brings the institution-focused LayerZero protocol onto the Cardano blockchain.
Speaking during a keynote at Consensus Hong Kong 2026, Cardano Founder Charles Hoskinson announced that the long-awaited mainnet launch of Midnight Network will be rolled out in the final week of March.
While the Cardano founder was giving his speech on Midnight Network, he was asked by one of the attendees about the mainnet launch, to which he replied that “how about the end of March.” he said, “The very first version of Midnight’s launching and we have some great partners.”
This milestone follows successful testnet phases, including the recent Kukolu transition for stable dApp deployment. Hoskinson also highlighted integrations like LayerZero for cross-chain capabilities and partnerships with tech-giants like Google and Telegram.
What is Midnight Network and why is it important?
Midnight Network aims to enable compliant decentralized applications with programmable privacy. NIGHT, Midnight’s native governance and utility token, launched on Cardano in December 2025 as a Cardano Native Asset. It was distributed to users in August 2026 with the Glacier Drop initiative.
Notably, the project has widened its market presence with a number of integrations and developments within the blockchain ecosystem. It recently formed a partnership with Spacecoin, a decentralized satellite internet provider company, to push private communication into orbit.
Institutional expansion with LayerZero
Despite a period of intense market volatility, which Hoskinson acknowledged has driven investor sentiment to an “all-time low,” the network is pushing forward with a significant institutional integration. During his session at Consensus Hong Kong 2026, Hoskinson also confirmed a landmark deal to onboard LayerZero to the Cardano blockchain.
The deal aims to bridge institutional-grade assets to Cardano, specifically through the launch of USDCx. Hoskinson emphasized that this move, synchronized with the Midnight mainnet rollout, will leverage zero-knowledge technology to provide stablecoins with a focus on privacy and immutability.
“And to prove it, I’m excited to announce our partnership with LayerZero,” he stated in his keynote speech. “We’re bringing USDCx to Cardano with a launch date set, complete with broad wallet and exchange support. This means stablecoins with true privacy and immutability, powered by zero-knowledge tech. It’s institutional-grade, and it’s happening now — alongside Midnight’s mainnet rollout. Get ready, folks. This changes everything.”
