Steak ‘n Shake, an American fast-food chain, has come up with a futuristic advertising campaign. It portrays its approach to modernizing its operations while maintaining its food flavor and quality. The chain teased this in its recent X post.
The campaign portrays an online ordering system for seamless digital purchases and quirky visuals of robots enjoying burgers, indicating future automation like AI-driven cyber chefs, teased by the chain’s COO, Dan Edwards.
The company started accepting its payment in Bitcoin across all its available 397 locations, including France, Monaco, and Spain, on May 16, 2025.
At the Bitcoin Conference 2025 earlier this year, Edwards had said, “Bitcoin is Faster than Credit Cards.” He stated that the chain saves about 50% in processing fees when customers choose to pay in bitcoin instead of credit cards. Moreover, the chain reinvests savings from Bitcoin’s lower fees to enhance food quality.
Steak ‘n Shake is the first food chain company to accept payments in digital currency. It also designed an additional logo on its website’s homepage promoting Bitcoin.
Back in April, DFX Swiss announced via LinkedIn that Spar had become the first supermarket in Switzerland to accept direct Bitcoin payments at checkout, thanks to the Lightning Network and OpenCryptoPay. With just a simple QR scan, customers could pay in Bitcoin quickly and cheaply.
Now, that early move is starting to look like a trend. Crypto payments are going more mainstream, and the food industry is picking up pace, too. From supermarkets to fast-food chains, more businesses are embracing digital assets, signaling a growing shift in how people want to pay.
