Trump’s Admin Hints At Bitcoin-Only U.s. Reserve

U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has confirmed that the Trump administration will announce a plan for a strategic Bitcoin reserve at the White House Crypto Summit on March 7. This means the U.S. government is considering keeping Bitcoin as part of its national assets. Other cryptocurrencies like Ether, Solana, Cardano, and XRP will also be included.

“The president definitely thinks that there’s a Bitcoin strategic reserve,” Lutnick told The Pavlovic Today in a recent interview. The idea is to give Bitcoin a special status while deciding how to treat other cryptocurrencies.

Some Bitcoin fans are unhappy about this decision: they’d prefer reserves to contain only Bitcoin because it is clearly decentralized and under no control.

They argue that altcoins, or other cryptocurrencies, are more centralized and should not be included. Even Peter Schiff, a well-known Bitcoin critic, admitted that a Bitcoin-only reserve makes sense. Critics worry that adding altcoins could weaken the idea of Bitcoin as a long-term store of value.

Despite the criticism, Lutnick explained that the administration sees Bitcoin as different from other cryptocurrencies. “So Bitcoin is one thing, and then the other currencies, the other crypto tokens, I think, will be treated differently—positively, but differently,” he said. The details of how this will work will be announced at the summit.

Meanwhile, the White House Crypto Summit is gaining attention, with 25 industry leaders expected to attend. Some big names include MicroStrategy’s Michael Saylor, Chainlink’s Sergey Nazarov, and Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong.

Trump’s administration has been working on crypto regulations since he took office. He even put together a Crypto Task Force within the SEC to create a clear set of rules. The House Subcommittee on Digital Assets has also been discussing issues like stablecoin regulations and which agency should oversee the crypto market.

Trump has said he wants the U.S. to be the leader in blockchain and crypto technology. His administration’s approach signals a shift toward embracing digital assets rather than restricting them. The full details of the strategic Bitcoin reserve will be revealed on March 7.
