Ripple Files Removed from the SEC Website. Is Case Closed?

Ripple’s case information against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been removed from the SEC’s website.

The absence of Ripple-related filings on the SEC’s website could be due to various reasons, including administrative updates or ongoing legal proceedings. While netizens claim it is the end of the Ripple vs. SEC case.

The foundation of this belief comes from Gary Gensler’s exit from the agency. Under his leadership, the SEC was believed to be targeting crypto firms and limiting innovations in the blockchain ecosystem to develop. Ripple was a prime example of this, as the SEC has a long, ongoing battle with the XRP developer.

The legal battle started in 2020 when the SEC accused Ripple of conducting unregistered securities offerings by selling XRP. They argued that XRP should be classified as a security under U.S. law.

In July 2023, U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres ruled that XRP sales on digital exchanges were not securities, a partial victory for Ripple. However, the court also ruled that sales to institutional investors were unregistered securities, and Ripple executives Brad Garlinghouse and Chris Larsen were not in violation of securities laws for their personal XRP sales.

Recently, Ripple has requested a deadline of April 16, 2025, to submit its response in the ongoing legal battle with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

While the Ripple XRP case may end soon, the Coinbase filing is still available despite Coinbase winning a legal battle against the SEC over crypto regulations on January 14, 2025.

Update:

The legal case between the SEC and Ripple has been moved to the ‘Court of Appeals’ section of the SEC’s website. While some may interpret this move as a sign that the case is nearing its conclusion, the legal battle is far from over.
