Twelve Jurors selected for the FTX SBF trial

Twelve individuals, including a pregnant physician’s assistant, a train conductor, and a retired investment banker, allegedly eventually decide on the fate of former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried.

According to reports, the initial panel of 45 jurors was narrowed down to 12 on the second day of the Manhattan trial on October 4. The potential jurors introduced themselves, sharing their background, age, employment, education, relationship status, and children in one minute.

One potential juror disclosed that his spouse had previously worked for the law firm that had served FTX; thus, it is uncertain if he was chosen for the jury. According to local news, a prospective juror was dismissed for working at the firm that invested in FTX and Alameda Research.

To select the 12 jurors, District Court Judge Lewis A. Kaplan consulted with prosecutors and Bankman-Fried’s defense lawyers. As per the reports, the panel will be female-dominated consisting of nine women and three men.

The 12 jurors consist of individuals aged between 30 and 60 from various professions, including healthcare, finance, law, IT, and education. Five of them hold university degrees. The list of jurors is as follows:

  • A man who was an investment banker at Salomon Borther is 60 years old
  • A 59-year-old man did not disclose his occupation but mentioned that his company is currently facing legal action
  • A 61-year-old man who is employed by the United States Postal Service
  • A 39-year-old physician assistant and former medical missionary in the Dominican Republic
  • A woman who possesses expertise in working with non-profit organizations and managing fundraising events
  • A 50-year-old woman who works as a train conductor
  • A 65-year-old woman retired from her job as a corrections officer
  • A 33-year-old woman who works as a nurse in Westchester, New York
  • A 40-year-old woman who is currently unemployed as a social worker
  • A woman who works at a school in the Bronx, New York
  • A woman who works in advertising
  • A 55-year-old woman works as a special education teacher in Rockland, New York

After the jury selection, both the prosecution and defense teams are given a 15-minute opening statement. During this time, two individuals were presented as testimonies – Adam Yedidia, a close friend of SBF, and Marc Julliard, a Cocoa broker who lost approximately $80,000 to FTX, and then Judge Kaplan called it a day.
