Ethereum Shanghai Upgrade Countdown Starts As Devs Set Deadline

The upcoming major upgrade on the Ethereum main net, Shanghai hard fork is expected to take place on April 12 as Ethereum main developers assigned the D-day during the All Core Developers Execution Layer #157 call on March 16.

The Shanghai upgrade, specifically the EIP-4895 will unlock the withdrawal of stETH tokens for validators from the Beacon chain, which are locked since 2020. Including EIP-4895, the Shanghai hard fork contains five Ethereum Improvement Proposals that will mark final completion of the PoS transition.

However, Ethereum Network will see new waves of updates after the Shanghai upgrade, including “Surge,” “Verge,” “Purge” and “Splurge.”

After the Shanghai upgrade, Validators will also be able to get their reward at certain intervals in their linked addresses. Recently, the test run practised on the Ethereum testnet, in which the Goerli testnet has seen Shapella upgrade.
