KuCoin Nigeria Limited, the local entity representing global cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin in Nigeria, has received conditional approval-in-principle from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for admission into the regulator’s Accelerated Regulatory Incubation Programme.
According to the announcement dated October 13, 2026, the conditional approval-in-principle does not constitute final registration, a license, endorsement, or recommendation by SEC Nigeria. It does not authorize KuCoin Nigeria to commence operations, onboard clients, or offer any services to the Nigerian public.
What is the Accelerated Regulatory Incubation Programme
The Accelerated Regulatory Incubation Programme (ARIP) is a framework operated by Nigeria’s SEC to help digital-asset firms prepare for full regulation.
Under ARIP, companies may receive conditional approval-in-principle after showing their proposed products, customer onboarding, fiat ramps, technology, governance, and risk controls. The approval does not amount to a final license or permission to operate or onboard clients.
The program lets firms refine their models and compliance systems under supervisory oversight before seeking full registration. It is intended to support innovation while strengthening market integrity, transparency, and user protection in Nigeria’s digital-asset sector.
KuCoin demonstrates proposed services to SEC Nigeria
As part of the review process, KuCoin Nigeria demonstrated elements of its proposed platform and operating model to SEC Nigeria. The presentation covered proposed products and services for Nigeria, customer onboarding procedures, fiat on- and off-ramp arrangements, technology infrastructure, and governance and risk management structures. The conditional status means that further conditions must still be satisfied.
Until all applicable pre-commencement conditions are met and any additional written clearance required by SEC Nigeria is obtained, KuCoin Nigeria will not commence operations, onboard clients, list digital assets, enable trading or peer-to-peer services, process fiat on- or off-ramp transactions, hold client assets or launch public-facing services in Nigeria.
Proposed products, digital assets, trading pairs, custody and wallet structures, fiat gateway arrangements, order-book-sharing arrangements, and related public communications also remain subject to further review and written no-objection by SEC Nigeria.
Approval applies only to KuCoin’s Nigeria entity
KuCoin’s regulatory status in other jurisdictions does not extend to Nigeria.
KuCoin EU has received authorization under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, allowing it to provide regulated crypto-asset services across the European Union.
In Australia, KuCoin operates through Axis One Markets Pty Ltd, which is registered with AUSTRAC as a digital currency exchange provider. Each of these authorizations or registrations applies solely to the relevant entity and activities within the applicable jurisdiction.
None of them authorizes KuCoin Nigeria to operate or provide services in Nigeria. Its participation in ARIP and any activities undertaken under the programme remain subject to the scope and conditions specified by SEC Nigeria, as well as applicable regulatory, operational, and supervisory obligations. Admission into the program does not assure or predetermine the grant of formal registration.
In a separate development earlier this year, KuCoin added support for Arc following the blockchain’s public mainnet launch, allowing eligible users to transfer USDC directly between the exchange and the network. That integration was announced on September 16 and applies to eligible users under the terms set by KuCoin in the jurisdictions where it already operates.
