The XRP Ledger has activated the Batch amendment, identified as XLS-56, on October 9, enabling multiple transactions to execute atomically within a single ledger close.
The official announcement notes that, “Batch feature is now LIVE!! Major props to all the engineers and validators to get this over the finish line. Its a massively important functionality for the XRP Ledger to allow crucial use cases for institutions and also retail builders.”
Batch Amendment Details
The Batch amendment permits up to eight XRP Ledger transactions from different accounts to be bundled and linked with dependencies. In all-or-nothing mode, failure of any inner transaction causes the entire batch to revert.
According to Hussein Zangana, Director of Community at the XRP Ledger Foundation, the amendment enables several transaction patterns. These include atomic swaps for delivery-versus-payment structures in repo markets, in which tokenized securities are exchanged at the same time as a corresponding payment. Cross-asset swaps can combine NFTs, multi-purpose tokens and trustline tokens in a single transaction. Platforms can collect service fees within the same transaction as the primary activity.
Multiple decentralized exchange swaps with different slippage parameters can be bundled so that the first successful swap completes. NFT-for-NFT trades are also supported. The feature supports multi-party coordination, including atomic swaps and coordinated settlements that do not require trust assumptions between parties. An earlier version of the Batch amendment, referred to as v1.0, entered the voting phase but was not activated on the mainnet.
Related network developments
Separately, RippleX has opened the LendingProtocolV1_1 amendment for validator voting. The upgrade adds closed-ended vaults and a new method of recording interest. It must activate with two other amendments before XRPL lending can go live on mainnet.
The LendingProtocolV1_1 amendment follows earlier work on XLS-65 and XLS-66, which introduced Single Asset Vaults and a lending system for fixed-term loans. The new amendment adds rules governing how those vaults should work when used for lending. RippleX stated that the amendment is open for validators to review and vote on.
