Treasury increases bond buybacks as yields ease
The rally in crypto assets coincided with developments in the U.S. Treasury market.
The U.S. Treasury announced on Wednesday that it would double the size of some long-term Treasury debt buybacks to at least $4 billion per operation, up from the previously planned $2 billion.
The announcement followed a major bond selloff that had pushed the 30-year Treasury yield to 5.34%, its highest level since 2007. Treasury said the larger buybacks would provide more liquidity to the longer-term bond market. After the announcement, the 30-year yield fell as low as 5.187%, while the 10-year yield dropped to about 4.66%.
