Bitwise Brings Crypto Model Portfolios to Financial Advisors

Key Highlights

  • Bitwise launched seven crypto model portfolios for financial advisors, including “Core” for broad crypto exposure.
  • The portfolios are monitored and adjusted regularly, so that advisors get easy-to-use reports to explain them to clients.
  • These portfolios are guides for advisors, not promises. They are to help advisors decide on what is best for each client based on their goals, risk, and time.

Bitwise Asset Management, an asset management firm, has launched its Bitwise Model Portfolio Solutions for Digital Assets, aimed at helping financial advisors add crypto exposure to client portfolios.

The offering includes seven model portfolios that cater to different investor profiles and risk preferences. Advisors can choose from broad “Core” portfolios, which give broad exposure to the whole crypto market, or “Thematic” portfolios that focus on specific trends, such as stablecoins, tokenization, or crypto assets beyond Bitcoin.

According to the official release, the portfolios are available through advisory platforms managing over $1 billion in assets. They are built using ETFs and leverage the firm’s eight-year experience in helping institutional investors access crypto opportunities.

How the portfolios work

The model portfolios are designed to make it easier for financial advisors to structure client allocations in digital assets. Each portfolio is monitored regularly and rebalanced to maintain its target allocation and prevent drift from its planned strategy.

The portfolios provide diversified exposure across the crypto market, so investors are not dependent on a single asset. Advisors also receive reports and materials to help explain investments to their clients and do proper checks.

Matt Hougan, Bitwise’s Chief Investment Officer, said model portfolios play an important role in how financial professionals allocate assets, but adoption in crypto has been limited so far.

He added, “As the number and type of crypto ETPs grows, these expert-built models have a simple value proposition: They show advisors how to combine the growing number of crypto ETPs in ways that meet specific client objectives. They make building a crypto sleeve easy.”

Growing use of model portfolios

Model portfolios have grown in popularity in recent years. From 2023 to 2025, the value of assets tracking third-party model portfolios rose from $400 billion to more than $645 billion. Net inflows into these portfolios from 2022 to 2024 were over $80 billion. Bitwise’s offering gives financial advisors access to crypto-themed portfolios developed by a specialist without having to build their own strategies from scratch.

In its report, Bitwise emphasized that the portfolios are intended as educational tools for advisors. Advisors are responsible for final investment decisions, and they must consider each of their clients’ financial goals, time frame, and risk tolerance when giving any advice.

The company also said that future portfolio allocation may change as research continues and that portfolios are only examples, not guaranteed strategies. Investors should read ETF prospectuses carefully before investing.
