Emirates Airlines and Dubai Duty Free have revealed intentions to begin accepting cryptocurrency payments, such as Litecoin (LTC), by 2026.
The decision will allow passengers to use Litecoin to buy flights and onboard amenities. Aimed at young, digitally native travelers, the move is part of increasing demand for dynamic, digitally native travel experiences.
Alongside Litecoin, passengers will also be able to use other major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Cronos (CRO), Dogecoin (DOGE), Shiba Inu (SHIB), USDC, and other top stablecoins. The incorporation is set to be done by next year.
The initiative stems from a new collaboration with worldwide cryptocurrency marketplace Crypto.com. The transaction was witnessed by notable individuals, including Emirates executives and Crypto.com employees.
The decision also supports Dubai’s goal of becoming a global cryptocurrency hub under its D33 Agenda. Just days ago, the Dubai Land Department partnered with Crypto.com to explore the use of blockchain and digital currencies in real estate, as part of its Real Estate Strategy 2033.
As Emirates looks forward to accepting crypto, the airline confirmed that security and adherence to regulations will remain of utmost importance. They intend to give consumers greater flexibility while ensuring a safe and secure payment process.
Emirates becomes one of several airlines to introduce crypto payments. Other players such as airBaltic, Travala, and Air Arabia have already started launching similar functionality, indicating that crypto is making strides in the travel industry
