President Donald Trump has doubled down on his pro-crypto stance, declaring, “I want crypto,” during a recent NBC News Meet the Press interview. Trump stressed the importance of embracing digital assets, warning that if the U.S. doesn’t lead, “China is going to.”
“Crypto is important. It’s new, it’s very popular, it’s very hot,” Trump said. He pointed out that crypto held up better than other assets during recent market downturns, showing its resilience and potential.
Trump slammed the Biden administration for what he called a flip-flop on crypto — cracking down on it at first and now softening the stance for political gain. He emphasized that his support for crypto began long before his current presidential run.
When asked about profiting from the TRUMP token, he denied any personal gain. “I haven’t even looked,” he said, noting he donated his full presidential salary. “Should I contribute my real estate too? I don’t think so,” he added.
The TRUMP token recently surged 50% after Trump announced an exclusive May 22 dinner for the top 220 token holders. The event has raised ethical concerns.
Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff called for an investigation into potential “pay to play” behavior. Even Trump supporter and Bitcoin advocate Senator Cynthia Lummis expressed discomfort.
Despite the controversy, Trump remains firm: “Crypto is too important to ignore.” His message is clear — lead the crypto race or risk falling behind China.
