Crypto scammer character in Squid Games season 2

Days after it premiered on Netflix, season 2 of immensely popular Squid Game web series, has found itself entangled in a controversy, over the depiction of a crypto scammer in the TV show.

The premier of Squid Game Season 2 on Netflix broke all previous viewership records by registering a staggering 68 million views in a week. While the tightly written script and twists and turns kept the viewers on edge, one of the contestants, depicted as a crypto coin project scammer, became the focal point of debates within the community.

Lee Myung-gi, a fictional character in Squid Game Season 2, is introduced as a YouTuber, who scammed his followers through his YouTube Channel MG Coin, and later, also ended up losing his money. He is one of the contestants in Squid Game and has to face hostility from his competitors who were once his avid fans and invested in his crypto project.

Lee’s portrayal of a crypto scammer has ignited a debate in the crypto community. Some people believe that this spoils the reputation of crypto space, while others believe this shows the dark side of the crypto space where some greedy influencers scam innocent users and loot their money.

Character Analysis: Player 333 “Lee Myung-gi”

In the series, Lee Myung-gi was described as a successful crypto YouTuber with a channel named as “MG Coin,” where he made content about crypto trends and gave trading advice to his crypto followers. However, when Lee Myung-gi promoted a crypto asset or coin known as “Dalmatian” as the next big thing in crypto, it became a nightmare for him and his followers. The coin Dalmatian was rug pulled, and his followers, including his girlfriend “Kim Jun-hee” and rapper “Thanos”, lost all their money in it.

As a result, Myung-gi got arrested for fraud and breaking multiple communication and investment laws. Later on, Myung-gi was contacted by a salesman at a subway station and invited to enter the Squid Game, as per the show’s script. After entering the Squid Game, Lee faces consequences for his doings in the real world, as his ardent fans threaten him over losses. Not only this he is also ignored and rejected by his girlfriend Kim Jun-hee.

The story may seem straight out of a film’s script but incidents like these keep happening in the crypto space like where celebrities and influencers abuse the trust fans put on them. The exact same thing happened with the Hawk Tuah Girl. She became popular, gained opportunities, and launched a meme coin, leading to financial losses for many after its release.

You will find several such stories in the world of crypto where celebrities often end up endorsing scam coins that harm their fans who are gullible enough to fall for such stunts. So, if you are one of those who believe that the character of Myung-gi brings disrepute to the crypto space then it’s time for you to get a reality check.

Final Thoughts

Not everything in the world is black and white; it’s not simply a matter of good or bad. Instead, everything exists in shades of grey. There is something positive in every situation, just as there is something negative. This principle also applies to the cryptocurrency space.

In the crypto planet, you will hear a lot of rags-to-riches stories, but you will also hear riches-to-rags stories. The point is that trading is all about winning and losing. You must have heard the tagline: Trading is a subject of market risk. As a trader or an investor, it is our duty to understand the risk and what is at stake. A single trade can ruin anyone’s life and also makes anyone’s life so trade or invest wisely don’t be a fool like Lee Myung-gi, an average crypto scammer.
