Bitcoin’s price surged to $60k following an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, with the cryptocurrency gaining following Trump’s increased odds of winning the upcoming presidential election.
Trump, who has positioned himself as pro-crypto, was reportedly shot in the right ear during a political rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
His campaign quickly assured supporters that the former president was “fine” and still planning to attend the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Monday.
The incident triggered a response in the crypto markets. According to CoinMarketCap’s data, Bitcoin rose as much as 2.6% to $60,216. Ethereum and Solana also saw gains of 1.7% and 4.49% respectively. Trump’s memecoin, MAGA (TRUMP), saw a massive increase of more than 47% a few hours after the incident.
Moreover, the former president’s chances of reclaiming the presidency also increased following the events. President Joe Biden has condemned the violence and expressed relief at Trump’s safety.
