Pump.fun, a Solana-based memecoin launchpad, announced today that its official Instagram page had been breached by an external party.
In a post on X from the official @PumpfunEco account, the team announced that the Instagram account had been hacked due to external factors.
The community members were urged not to believe in anything posted through the official Instagram account of the Pump.fun project until the hacking issue is resolved. The post also highlighted that the main Pump.fun networks are still safe, and there is nothing to worry about.
The team indicated it would provide further updates only through verified official channels.
X account hack
The current situation is just one example of social media insecurity incidents hitting the crypto industry. Previously, the social media website pump.fun experienced an X account takeover in February 2025, where hackers were promoting scam tokens.Â
During that particular incident, the company immediately took action to alert their followers while trying to regain control of their X account. Social media websites such as Instagram are popularly hacked by cybercriminals in the cryptocurrency field.
These cybercriminals take advantage of the huge number of followers on these social media websites and the fast speed at which misleading messages can be disseminated.
The hackathon rollout
In January, the pump.fun platform has announced a $3 million hackathon under its new investment vehicle called the Pump Fund.Â
The hackathon seeks to support 12 emerging ideas that will be given $250,000 each, having been valued at $10 million. In lieu of the usual VC presentations, selected projects will raise money by launching their tokens on the Pump.fun network, ensuring they keep at least 10 percent of the total issuance while also creating a product in the open via constant updates and live streams.
The hackathon is open to all sectors and stages. Entries were initially set to close on February 18, 2026, with the initial winners announced within 30 days.
The future outlook
At the time of writing, there had been no further updates from Pump.fun regarding how the hack occurred and when control would be reclaimed.
The company emphasized again that all assets on the platform belonging to any users were safe. In addition to the hack of an important crypto organization, it also highlights the current debates surrounding better security practices in social media management among the crypto community, especially when it comes to multi-factor authentication, designated teams, and quick response strategies.
Pump.fun’s followers on Instagram are advised to watch out for official announcements on their platform’s website and confirmed accounts on the social networking sites like X when the account is back under control.
