Friend.Tech Threatens Users, Receives Community Backlash

The decentralized social app Friend.tech said it will penalize users who go to use its clone and copied applications.

On 29th August, the DeSo platform announced that it would forfeit users’ points if they moved to other similar social platforms. Friend.tech rewards users with Points who actively use the platform, and it’s rumored to be used for future airdrops.

The latest move comes from Friend.tech as it expects that there will be clone applications and competitors with similar functionalities where users can pivot.

“Users moving to forks and copies will automatically opt out of earning Points and forfeit existing points,” the announcement reads. These users will be able to use application while not receiving any Points further.

It said that the decision is made in order to make sure that its loyal users are rewarded fairly. As the application is still in beta, the reward points are much likely needed to keep it active.

As the crypto community does not accept harsh restraining actions, this bold move is opt to drive major criticism towards it. Apparently, several users have condemned the platform in reaction.

I like what u guys are doing but prob slow ur role a little bit. Crypto ppl don’t like to be forced like this don’t make the mistake of forgetting that the community is the lifeblood of the project

— KJ Crypto (@koreanjewcrypto) August 28, 2023

As the move was criticized by the vast majority of crypto community, the founder released an apology note citing that it was a mistake and opposite of the crypto culture.

However, Friend.tech has now deleted both the tweets from their handle.
