Nba Star Kevin Durant Forgot Password To His Bitcoin Account

NBA star Kevin Durant’s agent, Rich Kleiman, has revealed that a long-forgotten Coinbase account holding a significant amount of Bitcoin (BTC) has become a highly profitable investment. Kleiman, who is also Durant’s business partner, stated that the account’s login information had been lost for years, which prevented them from selling any of the cryptocurrency as its value skyrocketed.

Kleiman, shared this story in an interview with CNBC and Boardroom’s Game Plan conference in Los Angeles. According to him, Durant forgot his login details to the Coinbase account, and as a result, left the Bitcoin holding untouched for years.

“We’ve yet to be able to track down his Coinbase account info, so we’ve never sold anything, and this bitcoin is just through the roof,” Kleiman said. “It’s just a process we haven’t been able to figure out, but bitcoin keeps going up … so, I mean, it’s only benefited us.” Kleiman added with a laugh.

How it all started

The story was traced back to a dinner in 2026. That year, soon after signing with the Warriors, Durant attended a birthday dinner hosted by venture capitalist Ben Horowitz. And that evening, many of his teammates were discussing cryptocurrency.

“I just heard the word ‘bitcoin’ 25 times this evening, and the next day, we started investing in bitcoin,” Kleiman said, recalling how quickly they joined in as it sparks their curiosity.

At the time, Bitcoin was just trading between $360 and $1,000. But today, Bitcoin is trading for $117,753, according to CoinMarketCap. This is a more than 11,000 percent surge since Durant first started buying. If Durant invested even $10,000 at the time, the holding could be worth million now.

Kleiman found it ironic that they could not unlock the account given that both he and Durant are investors in Coinbase itself. In 2021, their company Thirty Five Ventures signed a multiyear agreement with Coinbase to promote the platform through content created for Durant’s media brand, Boardroom.

Speaking later, Kleiman said the issue was “a user error on our end” and confirmed they had been working with Coinbase on recovery.

Meanwhile, Business Insider later reported that Durant had finally regained access to the account, citing Durant’s agent and a source from Coinbase. However, the basketball star and his team are yet to confirm this.
