Chainalysis Recruit Ex-Irs Chief To Fight  Crypto Crimes

Chainalysis, a blockchain analytics firm, strengthens its abilities in the fight against cryptocurrency crimes by harnessing Jim Lee, the previous IRS-CI unit chief. Lee will now be performing a job recently created by Chainalysis, entitled Global Head of Capacity Building.

Lee will work with regulators, law enforcement agencies, tax authorities, and financial institutions. He will help crypto businesses and financial institutions in the private sector build and maintain robust compliance programs.

He aims to shape new approaches for fighting crypto crime more efficiently by using Chainalysis products and data sources.

Lee was the IRS chief for 29 years and served as the head of the IRS Criminal Investigations for three years before joining Chainalysis. While in his office, the agency reached substantial success including; the shutdown of Hydra, a darknet marketplace, the seizure of crypto assets from Hamas, and the takedown of Welcome to Video, a darknet platform facilitating child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

Lee admitted that virtual currencies have numerous capabilities, but also acknowledged them to be employed in criminal activities. He emphasized the importance of equipping law enforcement agencies with advanced technical tools and data to enhance security in the cryptocurrency and safeguard users.
