French NFT fantasy sports startup Sorare has signed Lionel Messi as an investor and brand ambassador. With it, the football tournament Global Cup ’22 was launched.
The Argentine soccer superstar will assist Sorare in raising the bar for how fans interact with clubs and players. As part of the agreement, Messi has taken an equity stake in Sorare without specifying the size of his stake or any other terms.
“We believe Messi will help us set new standards in how we do this,” said Nicolas Julia, CEO and co-founder of Sorare. “We look forward to sharing what new content and fan experiences we’ve been collaborating on soon.”
Sorare allows users to trade digital player NFT cards and manage fantasy soccer teams of five in tournaments.
There are three types of Common cards in the Global Cup tournament, with utility and designs varying depending on the club and national team partnerships.
This is Sorare’s another major partnership, following the Premier League’s £30 million-a-year deal in October.
