OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, has responded strongly to Elon Musk’s threat to sue Apple. Musk claimed Apple unfairly promotes OpenAI’s ChatGPT in its App Store.
Musk accused Apple of rigging its App Store ratings to favor OpenAI and called it an “unequivocal antitrust violation.” He also stated that xAI would be pursuing legal action.
Altman reacted to this by calling Musk’s complaint hypocritical. In a post on X he shared that Musk himself manipulates the X platform to favor his companies and hurt competitors and people he dislikes. Altman also claimed Musk set up X to show his posts first to all users.
Further, Altman hoped any investigative efforts would reveal more about Musk’s actions, while also saying OpenAI will keep focusing on building excellent products. He said, “I and many others would love to know what’s been happening.”
While Apple hasn’t responded to Musk’s claims yet, the conflict highlights how intense competition is in the AI world.
Musk and OpenAI’s Ongoing Legal Feud Intensifies
This is not the first time that OpenAI and Elon Musk have been in conflict. After an initial co-founding role in OpenAI before his 2018 departure, Musk has been involved in various feuds with Altman.
In April, Sam Altman filed a legal lawsuit against Musk, alleging that he was attempting to harm the company. Additionally, on April 5, Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, claiming that it has become a for-profit organization. This lawsuit is currently ongoing, with the trial scheduled for spring 2026.
This latest grievance pulls Apple into the fray, citing its partnership with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into Siri and Apple Intelligence features.
