OpenAI, a US tech giant, has announced that it expects its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT to reach 700 million weekly active users this week. This is an increase from 500 million in March 2025, representing a fourfold growth compared to last year.
This figure includes users of all ChatGPT versions, including free, Plus, Pro, Enterprise, Team, and Edu. The platform now handles over three billion daily messages.
Nick Turley, OpenAI’s Vice President of Product for ChatGPT, shared this in his X post. He also added that, every day, people and teams are learning, creating, and solving harder problems. The company now has five million paying business users, up from three million in June, as businesses and educators adopt AI tools.
Despite this projection, ChatGPT still trails Google’s AI search product. According to Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, AI Overviews has two billion monthly users, while Google’s Gemini App has 450 million monthly active users. OpenAI recently secured $8.3 billion in funding from investors including Dragoneer Investment Group, Andreessen Horowitz, and Sequoia Capital, as part of a $40 billion SoftBank-led round.
OpenAI’s Revenue Climbs to $13 Billion
As per reports by CNBC, OpenAI’s annual recurring revenue has increased by $13 billion, up from $10 billion in June 2025. And it expects to surpass $20 billion by the end of the year.
To fuel its global growth, the firm is investing heavily in AI infrastructure. Recently, OpenAI collaborated with SoftBank, Oracle, and MGX, committing up to $500 billion over four years. It also has a $30 billion annual lease with Oracle for 4.5 gigawatts of data center capacity in the U.S., an $11.9 billion deal with CoreWeave, and a new project in Norway.
