OpenAI has launched a game-changing upgrade to ChatGPT, the ChatGPT Agent, a powerful tool that can now take real action online with minimal human input. This virtual assistant can complete complex tasks from start to finish using its own built-in computer, browser, and coding tools.
Users can ask it to research topics, generate slides, summarize meetings, shop for recipes, or even file expense reports. It works by combining ChatGPT’s conversational smarts with access to web tools, email apps, and APIs like Gmail or GitHub.
The system builds on OpenAI’s older tools, Operator and Deep Research, but now blends reasoning and real-world action seamlessly. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman posted on X, “You can feel the AGI,” hinting at the company’s long-term goal of building human-like intelligence.
The agent is now rolling out to Pro, Plus, and Team users in the U.S., with 400 monthly messages for Pro users and 40 for others. Enterprise and education users will get access soon.
Safety and privacy are the priorities. The agent never makes sensitive moves such as logging in or sending emails without permission. It also prevents known threats such as immediate injection, where concealed instructions on a website might fool the AI.
Though still in beta, features like slide creation are already live, with improvements underway. For now, OpenAI has not confirmed a release date for India or Europe. This marks a huge step toward smarter, action-ready AI, and it’s just getting started.
