Hychain Games announced in a statement that it will begin a closed beta of Hytopia, an online multiplayer game inspired by Minecraft, this month following the developer’s $8 million node sale.
Hychain Games claims that the platform enables players to “earn rewards from a pool of 250 million $TOPIA tokens” as well as contribute to the security and operation of its Layer 2 blockchain.
“Within just 48 hours of the node sale announcement, Hychain generated 2,098 ETH ($8 million at the time of the sale), with 254 ETH ($1 million) distributed among creators,” the statement continued.
Earlier this month, the web3 game creator made the node sale announcement. Previously, Hychain Games was known as the NFT Worlds project, which was based on Minecraft. The new video game Hytopia, which the developer is powering with the Layer 2 Hychain blockchain, has over a million gamers pre-registered, according to the business.
“Following the node sale, Hychain developers launched its mainnet on March 9, enabling users to transact, deploy contracts, create systems, and more,” the announcement from Hychain Games stated.
Hytopia, a free-to-play game, has opened its closed beta over two years after NFT Worlds was compelled to change their approach. After Mojang Studios, the company that created Minecraft, forbade NFT integrations, NFT Worlds continued to use the source code of the game to power its NFT-powered metaverse.
Hychain Games now believes that Hytopia will appease players who may have been annoyed or constrained by the rules and structure of Minecraft.
“Despite Minecraft’s user base exceeding 150 million, its restrictive monetization and creator ecosystem have left a gap for a new platform that emphasizes modding, performance, monetization and creator tools,” Hychain stated in a statement.
A statement also reads, “Hytopia aims to directly address the challenges faced by Minecraft creators, such as stringent EULA constraints and technical limitations that restrict monetization opportunities and creative freedom.”
