Former Indian Chief Justice U.U. Lalit praised the soon-to-be-effective “Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita,” the country’s new penal law, on Saturday. However, he did draw attention to the fact that topics like cryptocurrency and cybercrime are not covered.
Speaking at a conference on the new regulations hosted by NALSAR-Hyderabad and the India Foundation, Mr. Lalit asserted that virtual currencies and cybercrime are real.
However, no legislation has been passed to address this issue, so the legal community continues to use the standard definition of stealing.
Additionally, the code says nothing about the cross-national digital realm of false personas and associated problems. He hoped that in the upcoming years, Parliament would address it.
He referred to the new criminal laws as a “good exercise” and said that the measures enhancing the penalties under culpable murder for hit-and-run cases are a welcome step toward achieving the greater good.
However, the former Chief Justice of India expressed regret that the advice was not adopted and wished that rape had been treated as “gender neutral.” Additionally, some clauses lack clarity and may give rise to questions in situations like sedition.
