Crypto payment startup MoonPay won the auction for World of Women NFT #5672 held at Christie’s for £567,000, approximately, $754,340.
After Christie’s announced to auction the World of Women NFTs in its 20th/21st Century: London Evening Sale, MoonPay emerged as the top bidder on 1st March, for a whopping £567,000 ($754,340) making it one of the most expensive WoW pieces ever sold. MoonPay purchased it on behalf of an unknown buyer.
This wasn’t just any other NFT art piece.
Woman #5672, depicts a young woman with a black bob and gold triple ring earrings. She has a skin tone of ‘night goddess’, a cool shade of night-sky purple with sunset facial features. She is dressed in a black tuxedo, her lips – a passion red color. Her face is within a red turquoise background.
Some of the features are intentionally more scarce than others. Her skin tone appears in only 0.85% of the collection. Similarly, only 1% wear a tuxedo. As a result, she is one of the rarest World of Women NFTs in existence.
MoonPay purchases NFTs and bills its clients for them. Its concierge service targets high net worth individuals who want to buy digital collectibles without any hassle.
While the cryptocurrency and NFT space are dominated by men, women are making significant inroads into the emerging and lucrative virtual world. The Women-led World of Women collection is becoming the trendsetter in the NFT space with its newest endeavors. Recently, WoW collaborated with Billboard Magazine to create NFT covers for its Women in Music, featuring three of the female legends of the music industry.
