Fed'S Chair Met Coinbase

Fed’s Chair Jerome Powell had a meeting with the coinbase CEO, Brian Armstrong on May 11. The monthly release of Powell’s meeting Calendar made the meeting with Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong public on 2 July 2021.

In the record Powell’s in-person meeting with Brain was also attended by former US House Representative Speaker Paul Ryan lasted 30 minutes. It was unknown what the subject of the planned Fed’s chair half-hour meeting with coinbase CEO was for. Meeting took place during the week of the volatility of cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin. Ryan’s existence is unclear. The former speaker left politics in 2019 and is now with private equity firm Solamere Capital.

Powell also met Giancarlo, the former Chairman of U.S. commodity Future Trading Commission and director of the Digital Dollar project on May 12. It was a virtual meeting and also lasted 30 minutes. Meeting took place as Fed dig deeper on a digital dollar.

On May 20, days after the meeting, Powell said the Fed would release a discussion paper this summer. Highlight the current thinking of digital payment with a particular focus on benefits and risks associated with CBDC.
