The sportswear fashion brand retailer Skechers is set to enter the metaverse after signing a lease for retail space in Decentraland’s Fashion District.
Skechers becomes the first lifestyle company to sign a lease in Decentraland’s Fashion District, a decentralized virtual reality platform powered by the Ethereum blockchain, as per a press release.
As part of its entry, it has also filed trademark applications all over the world to sell virtual goods like footwear and apparel, indicating a new growth opportunity in the metaverse.
Michael Greenberg, President of Skechers said, “Our Decentraland agreement is an investment in our future. We look forward to embarking on this virtual era, and exploring creative ways for our brand to engage with new customers and audiences as we launch the new Skechers experience.”
Decentraland is constructing a fashion district. Users can create, experience, and monetize their content and purchase plots of land on the Decentraland platform. The 3D virtual space within Decentraland is known as ‘Land,’ and it is an NFT held in an Ethereum smart contract.
Numerous global high fashion brands are currently vying for entry into the metaverse. The leading sportswear clothing and shoe brand Nike has been building its metaverse team and hiring for key positions to expand its footprint in the metaverse.
