The American music magazine Billboard has announced a collaboration with World of Women for its annual ‘Women in Music’ issue. Christina Aguilera, Madonna, and Mariah Carey will be featured in the World of Women collection inspired magazine cover NFTs.
These auction of these NFTs started on the FTX US NFT Marketplace on March 2, 2022, at 9 p.m. PT.
In Brief:
- The magazine cover celebrates successful women in the music industry by dropping WoW NFTs of three female musical legends.
- A part of the proceeds from the sale will go to charities of the musicians’ liking.
- The buyers of the NFTs will get to attend Billboard’s “Women in Music” next year in LA.
Yam Karkai created the World of Women (WoW) NFT collection, which includes a series of 10,000 diverse female avatars that were initially priced at 0.07 ETH apiece, or about $200, with the goal of using the NFT space to create a global community that encourages diversity and equal opportunities for creators and contributors.
The Billboard Women in Music 2022 broadcast event aims to recognize all women who are making an impact in the music industry this year by celebrating through its Women in Music event and Women’s History Month.
And so, WoW was the perfect choice for it! This collaboration is special also because it marks the first time an NFT artist has designed a magazine cover.
Yes, Karkai created the artwork for the covers. She drew inspiration from her World of Women collective.
Yam Karkai came on the stage at the Billboard event and shone a light on the issue at hand with new digital spaces and their representation of women. “Last year we all heard about NFTs and how they’re booming, and we were all really confused,” she said. “But here we are today, and women still aren’t being spotlighted enough.”
The NFT magazine cover art depicts Madonna wearing her iconic blonde locks and hat, Christina Aguilera, who was also named as Billboard’s first Iconic Woman in Music for 2022, is shown in her iconic icy dark blonde with her eyes making a statement, and Mariah Carey’s NFT cover captures her boldness perfectly!
The covers are for sale on the NFT marketplace FTX on the Ethereum blockchain later this month for a philanthropic cause. Nonprofit organizations of each cover star’s choosing will benefit from a portion of the proceeds.
Aguilera’s cover will benefit National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, while Madonna will donate the proceeds to the City of Joy, and Carey will partner with Camp Mariah with Fresh Air Fund.
If this isn’t enough, winners of the cover NFTs will also be flown to Los Angeles for a Billboard “Women in Music” celebration next year where they will walk the red carpet alongside the musicians.
This week, World of Women has been highlighted for a variety of reasons that could increase brand awareness and the value of the collection. KPMG Canada purchased the World of Women NFT and with this, the firm entered into the booming NFT space.
