The growing desire to own primate-friendly NFTs has resulted in a security breach and phishing attack worth about 200 ETH (about $370,000). Yuga Labs’ BAYC Discord server was compromised after community manager Boris Vagner’s Discord account was reportedly hacked.

OKHotshot (@NFTherder), an on-chain analyst, was the first to report the BAYC’s Discord security breach, stating that 145 ETH had been taken.

“We are still investigating,” the Bored Ape Yacht Club tweeted later, “but if you were impacted, email us at [email protected].”

The hacker targeted holders of BAYC, MAYC, and OthersideMeta by posting phishing URLs in the official BAYC and its linked metaverse project, Otherside’s Discord channels.

According to CertiK, a blockchain security firm, 32 NFTs were stolen, including 2 MAYC, 1 BAYC, 1 BAKC, and 5 Otherdeed. Through linked EOAs, ‌142 ETH was deposited into Tornado Cash.

Gordon Goner, the co-founder of Yuga Labs, tweeted shortly after, “Discord isn’t working for Web 3 communities. We need a better platform that puts security first.”

It doesn’t end there, though. Boris Vagner’s brother, who co-founded the Spoiled Banana Society (SBS) fantasy football club NFTs with Boris, tweeted that the attacker also uploaded a phishing link on the SBS Discord channel.

Hacking is becoming a common issue in the crypto world, and here is the latest example. BAYC has become a hotspot for hackers as it’s the second time BAYC’s Discord server has been compromised through a phishing attack.
