El Salvador is teaming up with Nvidia to build a strong artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure for the country. The government signed a letter of intent with Nvidia on April 21, 2025, to focus on using AI to drive national growth.
The National Bitcoin Office (ONBTC) of El Salvador announced it on X. The goal is to create “sovereign AI,” which will help improve areas like culture, language, environment, and the economy.

Nvidia will make its AI expertise, tools, and resources available to El Salvador as part of the agreement. The country hopes to build AI capabilities of its own to use in solving national challenges. These challenges range from improving healthcare, to enhancing education, to optimizing the economy.
The government will also focus on upskilling its workforce, training developers, researchers, and government officials to support the country’s AI needs. “El Salvador will focus on building domestic AI infrastructure, upskilling the workforce, and creating solutions to address local challenges,” the statement said.
El Salvador has big plans for its AI future. One project will use AI to predict weather patterns and rainfall, which could help with emergency response in landslide-prone areas. It could also improve the management of hydroelectric power. This is just one example of how AI will be used to solve real problems in the country.
The collaboration with Nvidia is just one part of El Salvador’s growing interest in AI. In March 2025, the ONBTC launched CUBO_ai, a university-level AI program. The program aims to train top-tier AI experts in the country.
The program even has the support of famous Bitcoin advocate Cathie Wood, who is expected to give the first lecture.
El Salvador is keen to use Bitcoin and AI, but it has not been without some problems. In March 2025, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) tried to stop El Salvador from buying more Bitcoin as part of a $1.4 billion loan deal. In spite of pressure from the IMF, El Salvador is still buying one Bitcoin per day.
