Speaking at the UAE Cabinet meeting at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi, the Vice President of the UAE, HH Sheikh Mohammed, has approved the launch of the first integrated regulatory artificial intelligence ecosystem within the UAE government.
As per his approval, the UAE will use AI to develop faster and smarter legislative reforms for the country. Mohammed announced these changes in his X post, stating, “Today, I chaired the Cabinet meeting at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi, where we made key decisions to advance legislative processes.”
He further added that, “We approved the establishment of the Regulatory Intelligence Office within the Cabinet. This office will work on creating a comprehensive legislative plan that brings together all federal and local laws in the UAE, connecting them through artificial intelligence with judicial rulings, executive procedures, and public services.”
The UAE Vice President also said that, “The new system will allow us to track the daily impact of laws on our people and economy using large-scale data, and it will regularly suggest updates to our legislation. The system will be linked to leading global research centers to follow the best international policies and legislative practices, tailoring them to fit the UAE’s unique context.”
Reports also cited that the UAE is creating a huge digital library, called a national legislative database, using AI. This library will store and connect all kinds of legal information.
In the future, this information will make it easier to find, understand, and use it to create better laws with the help of AI. The UAE’s new AI system will also keep track on the new laws and changes that will be happening worldwide, and, further, the AI will also check if the new changes matter for the UAE.
Further, it will also spot the gaps, conflicts, or outdated parts in the UAE’s legal system. It will also swiftly adjust to new requirements or modifications, akin to an evolving organism. The AI will also ensure laws still reflect the UAE’s traditions, culture, and the vision of its founders.
Further, these AI tools will help and save a lot of effort with researching, writing, reviewing, and passing laws. To manage this, the UAE Cabinet is going to set up a new office called the Regulatory Intelligence Office. The office will lead the planning and building of the AI lawmaking system, and it will also work with federal and local governments and private companies.
This initiative shows that the UAE wants a modern way of governing that combines human ideas with AI’s speed and smarts to make laws that are quicker to create, more effective, and able to adapt to changes.
