Pakistan’s Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced her plans to establish the country’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) University in Lahore while speaking at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum 2025 in Turkey.
She said that her government will focus on teaching AI and advanced technologies to students in Pakistan. She claims it will revolutionize education in Pakistan by equipping students, particularly girls, with essential skills for the future.
At the event, she has also emphasized the importance of educating girls worldwide. She highlighted that Punjab’s new AI-focused projects, like the planned AI University in Lahore, are big steps toward modernizing education.
These efforts aim to teach and train students, especially girls, in advanced technologies and artificial intelligence so they can be trained for a fast-changing world, and they also aim to empower young people to learn about cutting-edge technology and create new opportunities.
Maryam said that, “The promotion of AI-based education is changing the landscape of learning. With the establishment of Pakistan’s first AI university in Lahore, we are preparing our youth for a smarter, technology-driven future.”
As per the reports, she is now carrying forward the work that Pakistan’s former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif started. She’s building on their efforts to make progress in areas like education and development in Punjab. At the event in her speech, Maryam Nawaz shared several educational improvements in Punjab to make learning better for students.
She stated that over 4,000 Primary schools have been improved with better facilities. 6,000 schools now have “digital learning rooms” with touchscreens instead of old-fashioned chalkboards. Schools that were shut down before are now open again.
She further added that 50,000 talented students are now getting scholarships based on their skills, not connections. 30,000 teachers have been hired fairly to teach in schools. Teachers are getting training to use modern teaching methods. Students can now use AI-based tools to learn in new, tech-savvy ways.
She also introduced the “Nawaz Sharif Internet City,” a project to create a modern hub in Pakistan focused on technology and the internet. It’s meant to boost the country’s digital growth and make Pakistan more connected and tech-forward.
