Openai, Meta And Reliance Discuss Ai Expansion In India

OpenAI and Meta are reportedly in discussions with Reliance Industries for potential AI partnerships to strengthen their presence in India, according to a report by The Information.

One key possibility under discussion is a collaboration between Reliance Jio and OpenAI to distribute ChatGPT in India. The report also mentioned that OpenAI has internally explored lowering the ChatGPT subscription price from $20 to just a few dollars, though it’s unclear if this has been discussed with Reliance.

Reliance is also considering selling OpenAI’s AI models to its enterprise clients through APIs and even hosting OpenAI’s models locally. This would ensure that Indian customer data remains within the country, a crucial aspect of data privacy and security.

A major part of these discussions revolves around a massive three-gigawatt data center that Reliance plans to build in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The facility is expected to become one of the largest globally, with the potential to host and run AI models from both OpenAI and Meta.

Although Meta hasn’t commented yet, and both OpenAI and Reliance haven’t responded to the news, if these talks lead to a partnership, it could be a game-changer for India’s AI scene. It would make cutting-edge AI tools more accessible to businesses and users all over the country.
