Ai Will Remain Incomplete Without India: Narendra Modi

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently made a strong case for the country’s growing dominance in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector. Speaking with the famous podcaster Lex Fridman, Modi asserted that the global AI revolution cannot be complete without India’s involvement.

In the nearly two-and-a-half-hour discussion Narendra Modi strongly said that “I am making this statement very responsibly. Can anyone develop AI entirely on their own?”

“No matter what the world does with AI, it will remain incomplete without India”

PM Modi compared AI to India’s rapid 5G rollout, the world initially believed India is lacking behind everyone to develop and adopt the technology on large scale. He said, “ Once we started, we became the fastest nation globally to roll out comprehensive 5G networks.

He revealed India isn’t just developing theoretical AI models. It is actively working on and bringing to life AI-driven applications for very specific use cases to ensure that GPU access is available to every section of society. We have already created a unique marketplace-based model to ensure its broad accessibility.

Modi also shared how an American tech executive had recently told him that if they advertised engineering jobs in the U.S., they would barely fill a room, but in India, even a football field wouldn’t be enough to accommodate applicants.

“India has access to an extraordinarily vast pool of talent, and that’s our greatest strength,” he said. “Artificial intelligence is fundamentally powered, shaped, and guided by human intelligence.”

Without genuine human intelligence, AI can’t thrive or progress sustainably. And the richest reservoir of that intelligence is found in India’s youth and talent pool.

When asked about the fear that AI might replace humans, PM Modi dismissed the idea, saying “Every time, as technology advanced, humans adapted and stayed a step ahead. It has always been the case.”

The real power of AI is that it is forcing humans to reflect on what it truly means to be human. It has challenged how we perceive work itself. However no technology can ever replace the boundless creativity and imagination of the human mind.

Modi also made a strong case of his beliefs by saying, humans have an innate ability to care for each other, the natural tendency to be concerned about one another. Now, can someone tell me, is AI capable of this?
