Global technology leaders HCLTech an Indian multinational tech company, and Microsoft, an American multinational tech company, have collaborated with Cricket Australia to make use of generative AI (GenAI) to increase the experience of cricket fans in the live match through the Cricket Australia Live app.
The feature of the new app works as an assistant on matchday by delivering a continuous stream of text-based updates during the live matches.
This highlights an important narrative, performances, and powerful events, as it caters to the insights beyond live scores and commentary, by the advanced use of AI with a deep understanding and knowledge of cricket.
As per the reports, this AI Insights feature was launched on January 31 during the day-night test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) as part of the CommBank Women’s Ashes series between Australia and England, and it is now available to all users worldwide of the Cricket Australia Live app.
Sonia Eland, HCLTech’s Executive Vice President and Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand said, “By harnessing the power of generative AI, we can reimagine how fans engage with sports.”.
She further added that, “We have partnered with Cricket Australia for several years as their official digital technology partner, and this collaboration with Microsoft will further enhance the digital experience, bringing fans closer to the action.”
For the creation of the AI assistant, Cricket Australia has used Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service with HCLTech’s front-end and API development expertise.

She further stated that, “This innovation demonstrates how generative AI can transform interactions by providing personalized insights and deeper engagement for audiences.”
HCLTech first collaborated with Cricket Australia in the year 2019 to improve and update the firm’s core API platforms. The collaboration, which was done in 2023, will be continued for another five years.
These actions build TechJam, as a kicking start achievement to develop advanced solutions for the sport and the growing advancement of Cricket Australia Live, which has made it the leading sports app in Australia.
