Budget 2025-26: India Allots ₹500 Crore To Ai Centers

The Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, during the speech on the union budget 2025-26, declared that the Indian government has planned to establish three centers of excellence (CoE) in artificial intelligence (AI) for education.

The government has allotted a budget of ₹500 crore for the AI project. The focus of this project is to use AI effectively to enhance the Indian education sector.

The initiatives come as a part of the union budget 2025-26, with a focus on developing AI in academics for enhancing students’ skills and development in digital transformation, skill development, AI learning tools, and industry-academic collaboration.

Announcing in the Parliament, Sitharaman said, “Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing industries across the globe, and India must take the lead in AI research and applications.

The proposed Centres of Excellence will serve as hubs for innovation, training, and deployment of AI-driven solutions in the education sector.”

As reported by the Indian Express, the AI centers will collaborate with several educational institutions, research bodies, and private players to develop its AI models for educational applications for personalized learning experiences, automated assessments, and AI-powered tutoring systems for the development of the students.

The move will also address the increasing demand for IIT seats; the five IITs that are likely to be included in it are IIT Bhilai, IIT Dharwad, IIT Goa, IIT Jammu, and IIT Tirupati.

This investment aims to achieve the government’s vision of “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047, wherein technology, artificial intelligence, and education.

AI will also play an important part in India’s economic growth and job creation, which aims to make the country a leader in AI-driven innovation, which will strengthen India’s position as a global education hub and AI-driven innovation.
