Alibaba Launches New Ai Model, Claims Its Better Than Deepseek

Alibaba just released its new AI model called the “Qwen 2.5-Max”, and the tech company is claiming that it can outperform the newly released Chinese AI startup’s DeepSeek-V3, OpenAI’s GPT-4o, and Meta’s Llama-3.1-405B.

“Qwen 2.5-Max outperforms … almost across the board GPT-4o, DeepSeek-V3 and Llama-3.1-405B” Alibaba’s cloud unit claimed in a report from Reuters.

In a tweet on X, the company shared the stats showing that the model excels in key benchmarks, beating competitors in complex reasoning and real-time coding tasks. The launch is no doubt Alibaba’s aggressive push to dominate the AI industry.

Meanwhile, DeepSeek-V3 which was launched on January 10, began to make waves after a week as investors in the AI segment started to notice that it was a low-cost alternative to OpenAI’s premium models. The competition has turned so fierce with companies like Alibaba, Tencent, and Baidu ramping up development efforts in response.

The most recent contender is Alibaba’s Qwen 2.5-Max, and its aim is to position itself as a serious challenger to all the AI tools out there. Surprisingly unlike many other proprietary AI models, Alibaba is keeping Qwen 2.5-Max open-source. This allows developers and enterprises to integrate it into their systems with ease.

The new model has already gained traction, with early users praising its performance on multiple aspects such as real-time problem-solving and generative tasks.

Alibaba’s move is seen as a direct response to DeepSeek’s rise. The AI landscape is shifting fast, and companies are now engaged in a battle not just for performance but also for affordability. DeepSeek made headlines by offering ultra-low pricing compared to OpenAI, and Alibaba has responded by cutting cloud AI model prices by up to 97%.

With Alibaba now entering the race, the AI battle is far from over. Will Qwen 2.5-Max be the model that changes the game?
