DeepSeek, an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant (chatbot) from China has shocked the world by introducing itself as a much cheaper and efficient alternative to major players like OpenAI, GeminiAI and Grok. However, DeepSeek, funded by a China based startup, is not without its fair share of controversies, as it has given several shocking answers to geo-political questions pertaining to India-China-Pakistan conflict.
On Monday, the world woke up to stock market and crypto market crash as DeepSeek‘s popularity and low cost efficiency sent the tech world into a spin. In no time, DeepSeek replaced ChatGPT as the number 1 downloaded app on Apple play store. Tech experts and users have praised DeepSeek’s cost efficiency model and its chat box for accuracy in dishing out information.
However, when The Crypto Times submitted certain prompts to DeepSeek chatbot related to past and current geo political border issues, it came up with shocking answers. For example, when asked whether Arunachal Pradesh, the eastern frontier state of India, is part of India, DeepSeek refused to entertain the question.

Arunachal Pradesh is one of the 28 states of India, sharing its borders with Bhutan and Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) controlled by China. Back in 1962, India and China went on a war over certain disputed territories in Tibet, Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh. Despite signing the McMahon line agreement during 1914 Simla convention, China disputes Arunachal Pradesh as India’s territory till date.
Similarly, when asked about the hotly contested region of Kashmir, DeepSeek again avoided directly answering questions about the territorial control of the valley. Kashmir is currently administered by India, Pakistan and China however India has always maintained that Kashmir is an integral part of her.

In comparison to DeepSeek, when we gave a prompt to ChatGPT of OpenAI regarding Arunachal Pradesh as part of India, it duly gave an answer. Recently, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman praised DeepSeek AI chatbot but maintained that ChatGPT is better in efficiency.

However, when asked DeepSeek to list all 28 states of India, it duly responded including Arunachal Pradesh as one of the states and the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir as one of the union territories of India.

It is clear through above mentioned examples that emerging technologies like AI assistants despite being open-source mode of information remains affected by virtue of the location where they have been prepared.
