The prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, recently expressed his pride in India’s emergence as a global leader in artificial intelligence adoption. 

Sharing on X, he highlighted India’s commitment to innovation and using AI for transformational growth.  His remarks were based on a Boston Consulting Group (BCG) report showcasing India’s advancements in making AI a core strategic focus.

As per the report, 80% of Indian companies have prioritized AI, solidifying the position of India as a global leader in embracing AI as a key strategic objective. This figure surpasses the global average of 75%. 

The surge in AI adoption comes with big investment plans, as 69% of Indian companies plan to increase technology spending in 2025. Many companies are planning to invest over $25 million in AI projects. 

The report, titled From Pilot to Pro: Closing the AI Impact Gap, highlights that 8% of Indian companies recognize the need for substantial improvements in AI-related cybersecurity, which is crucial due to the increasing complexity of AI applications. 

Indian firms are not just exploring AI but actively integrating it into operations, reshaping workflows, and inventing new business models, positioning India as a hub of innovation and a key contributor to the global AI landscape.

While global leaders are still grappling with how to fully use AI, Indian businesses are taking the lead with a proactive approach. Their focus is on clear strategies and strong investment, which show India’s commitment to using AI for economic growth and innovation. 

BCG’s AI Radar survey, based on insights from over 1,800 business leaders, highlights the need for storing strategies to boost AI’s impact. Leaders are encouraged to follow the “10-20-70 framework,” focusing 70% on people, processes, and culture, 20% on data and technology, and 10% on strategy. 

PM Modi’s recognition highlights the government’s goal to make India a global leader in AI. Backed by strong investments and clear strategies, Indian companies are driving productivity, innovation, and sustainable growth with AI.
