Tech giant Google has announced its collaboration with the Associated Press (AP) to get real time news in order to train their in-house artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ‘Gemini’.
Google has stated in a blogpost that this collaboration with AP will provide a feed of real-time information to Gemini in order to improve the accuracy, and relevance of responses and also to enhance its AI Gemini platform.
Kristin Heitmann, AP’s chief revenue officer said,” It is part of a longstanding relationship with the search giant based on working together to provide timely, accurate news and information to global audiences.”
As reported by India Today, it will grant Gemini access to timely, structured news content and help the platform provide more up-to-date and informed outputs, according to the growing demand for AI models to remain currency updated with fast-moving news cycles.
Heitmann further said, “We are pleased that Google recognizes the value of AP’s journalism as well as our commitment to nonpartisan reporting, in the development of its generative AI products.”
One of the major advantages of this partnership is access to firewall-protected content, which is not available via traditional web crawling methods. This will allow Google to continue to train its AI models without the risk of copyright.
Further AP has amounts of data and text, which are equal to gold for Google in terms of training its advanced generative AI models. However, neither of the companies has revealed how much Google will pay to AP for its content.
Google has refused to comment on how it would present information from AP’s journalism and whether it would credit the news agency or link back to the original articles or not.
