Ai16Z Eyes Own Blockchain For Ai Agent Ecosystem

AI-powered investment DAO ai16z is exploring the launch of its own layer-1 blockchain network as part of a broader tokenomics overhaul. The project is also considering creating a platform similar to pump.fun for launching AI agents.

According to a post in its governance forum, contributors of ai16z envision the AI agent launchpad as “the primary way to implement ‘flywheel’ tokenomics that drive value to $ai16z,” the project’s native token.

Mechanics under consideration include taking a percentage of launch fees, requiring $ai16z holdings for allocation, using $ai16z for initial agent offerings, and pairing agent tokens with $ai16z in liquidity pools.

The proposed L1 blockchain would be open-source with node incentives, and the AI16Z token would serve as the base currency. This initiative reflects ai16z’s ambition to create a comprehensive ecosystem for AI agents within the blockchain space.

The need for these changes stems from concerns that the current tokenomics fail to adequately capture the value generated by the Eliza framework. Partners expressed a desire to better align incentives for developers, investors, and the wider community. The proposed launchpad aims to address this by creating a sustainable economic model for projects within the ai16z ecosystem.

Several key aspects of the planned changes have been identified: a curated approach to project launches, implementing a vetting process to ensure quality and alignment; introducing staking and governance mechanisms, empowering $ai16z holders to participate actively in the DAO’s direction; implementing strategic liquidity management, optimizing strategies to maximize benefits and mitigate risks; and diversifying the DAO treasury to enhance its resilience and long-term sustainability.

Since its launch in October, the AI16Z token has achieved a market capitalization of nearly $1.5 billion. Ai16z describes itself as “the first investment DAO led by AI agents,” utilizing its flagship AI operating system, Eliza, to make investment decisions. The autonomous investment fund manages an on-chain liquidity pool, reportedly achieving annualized returns approaching 25%.
